Bad news: Due to financial reasons, Friends of KGHP and Purdy Spit Radio are discontinuing as of October 1, 2025. Though we are a nonprofit, the Washington State taxes and the fees are killing us. I am $8k in debt from my own pocket with little to no participation or donations. The Facebook group will discontinue as of May 1, 2026.

 

* Registration with the Secretary of State, IRS (to be a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and the 3 business licenses as a nonprofit to be legal costs us $1k annually.

* Gig Harbor area land is expensive, so there’s no place to call home for our organization (this will soon go up.

* The group wanted no politics and no religion. This brought out the denial of various funding sources including grants.

* One person was against corporate donations and merchandise, memberships, and accepting personal. This would have left us with absolutely no funding.

* As of October 1, 2025, there will be an online advertising tax in Washington State.

* As of October 1, 2025, there will be a Washington State tax on online presentations, radio stations, podcasts and events (including live physical events).

* As of October 1, 2025, there will be a Washington State tax on all devices with a wifi connection.

* As of October 1, 2025, there will be a Washington State tax on the online presence (like a web site).

 

Some Good News: The online radio station will remain, but will be turned back to my hobby radio station where I will be playing music from my own personal library without a web site. You will be able to access it in the  regular areas from various directories. So you have until March 24, 2025 to locate and continue on listening to the station before this page expires. Thank you.
